The Japan Foundation Touring Film Programme is returning to London next month, and it’s your chance to experience the country’s fantastic and innovative filmmaking without having to board a flight. It’s the UK’s largest celebration of Japanese cinema, and this year the showcase is bigger than ever. With a host of debuts and a plethora of genres, including horror, erotica and fantasy, it promises to be one very enticing festival. ‘Mondays: See You ‘This’ Week!’ by Takebayashi Ryo sees the staff of a small but intense advertising agency realise they’re stuck in a monotonous time-loop, whereas ‘The Zen Diary’ by Nikae Yuji is based on an essay about food and cooking by leading Japanese author Mizukami Tsutomu.
