Street sellers with no other means of income would for centuries make their presence known by performing, singing and entertaining those passing by. Artists throughout time including Marcellus Laroon, Francis Wheatley, John Thomas Smith and William Marshall Craig have all been inspired by these pedlars, creating portraits of them known as the 'Cries of London'. This exhibition curated by The Gentle Author brings together some of the best examples from the Institute's archive.
