How do you celebrate a King’s coronation in the twenty-first century? With a big ol’ concert, apparently. The Royal Family has confirmed a massive shindig will take place in Windsor Castle the day after King Charles III’s official ascension to the throne, promising to ‘bring together music icons and contemporary stars’.
A world-class orchestra will play interpretations of musical favourites fronted by musicians and other performers and spoken word performances, all topped off with staging and effects on the Castle’s East Lawn.
When does the Coronation Concert take place?
The concert will take place on Sunday May 7, the day before our extra bank holiday of the year on Monday May 8.
How can I watch the Coronation Concert?
The public ballot for tickets to the concert has now closed. 10,000 tickets will be distributed among members of the public. The remaining tickets will be offered to organisations supporting young people, the military and the environment, alongside local communities and the Commonwealth.
The concert will be broadcast live on BBC One, BBC iPlayer, BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds.
