During the nineteenth century, a Hallowtide Fair visited Barking every October with pilgrims flocking from far and wide to commemorate the Feast Day of St Ethelburga, the Abbess of Barking Abbey. Now immersive theatre company Punkdrunk are set to reimagaine the legendary event with the help of local residents who have been invited by the company's enrichment team to share memories of the local area and magnificent building, helping to shape the Hallowtide Fair. The three day celebration (Oct 31-Nov 2) will feature stalls, festive music, traditional games and unexpected mysteries, hidden rooms and surprises for visitors who wish to dig a little deeper into the site's extraordinary history. Tickets for people living outside Barking and Dagenham have now sold out although further tickets may be released before the events. Check website for updates.
