St James’s Market is a secret space that’s surrounded by Piccadilly Circus and Regent Street St James’s. It’s already acquired a keen audience of shoppers who love visiting, because it’s bordered by magnificent British buildings and home to a truly great atmosphere, with some restaurants and shops in there for good measure.

This summer, the market is bringing in some of the city’s best talent and hosting secret music sessions. They’ll take place most Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays this summer through to September 1, so if you’re in central London after work and you need somewhere to take a date (or go for after-work activities), this could be the perfect place. You can chill out in the minimal market and enjoy the smooth sounds before heading off to one of the many restaurants on has to offer.

For dinner, we recommend Scully St James’s – it’s an atmospheric joint from the former head chef of Nopi. Just drinks? Try Duck & Waffle Local for a great cocktail and a more casual snack. Keep an eye on St James’s website and social media for details (@StJamesLondon), but acoustic sessions will generally take place from 5.30pm until 8pm on Thursdays and Fridays, and on Saturdays there’ll be lovely afternoon sessions from 12.30pm until 3pm. You don’t need to book a place – just show up and claim a spot.

There are more exciting offerings planned for St James’s Market during the warmer months (Wimbledon screenings and food markets, hello), so keep an eye out for those details, too. It’s officially summer, people. Let’s get outside and make the most of it.

Sunset Sounds is on at St James’s Market (SW1Y 4AH) on select Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays throughout summer. Check out stjameslondon.co.uk for the full schedule.
