Opening on Jul 14, 2011, this new wing, with an entrance and terrace in Greenwich Park, enables the museum to present its collections, events and exhibitions in a series of specially-designed spaces. The permanent gallery, 'Voyagers', tells the story of Britain and the sea through more than 200 objects, many of which have never been on show before, which are displayed alongside audiovisual content. The special exhibitions gallery opens with 'High Arctic', a collaboration between United Visual Artists (UVA) and climate change charity Cape Farewell. The installation employs sound, light and sculptural form to create an immersive, abstracted landscape inspired by an expedition made by UVA's Matt Clark with Cape Farewell to the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard.
