Autumnal leaves are pretty enough but a field full of bright orange pumpkins sounds far more spectacular. Following excellent growing conditions pumpkin farmers Jake and Mark Thompson, who have been in the business for 16 years, are gearing up for Halloween by opening up their fields to the public for a pumpkin picking frenzy. There’s no entry fee, just pay what you pick. Pumpkins are priced according to size from little-un’s at £1 up to a very reasonable £4 for a monster pumpkin (if you can carry it). Pickers of all ages are welcome but the owners ask that dogs be left at home. There’s a 100% chance of mud forecast in the field so wear wellies and gloves to get stuck in. Parking will be available in the field or the road, depending on the weather.
