This evening of screenings and discussion will explore how the introduction of gaslight and electric lighting in the nineteenth century transformed cities and the activities that went on inside them. By shining light into the night, new social customs and forms of leisure were created and it also provided a new time for people to undertake work. Screenings will be accompanied by a selection of guest speakers as well as a live pianist. See the website for full film listings. The event is free and there is no need book.
