M.Y.O (Make Your Own) has branched out and opened their second studio in Peckham Levels. It’s a cute space in the former multi storey car-park that Frank’s Cafe calls home, with the original concrete floors, simple furniture and a little trailing greenery. The premise of M.Y.O is an adults-only space where you can flex your creative muscles and try something new in a casual, no-pressure environment. There’s no such thing as a mistake, the end result (however amazing or odd-looking) isn’t focussed on and bringing your own booze to share with your fellow students is encouraged. Classes vary from calligraphy and illustration to pottery, painting and making your own tassel earrings. We tried the Watercolour for Beginners workshop, led by London-based illustrator Polly Crossman, who shared clever tips and words of encouragement as we attempted to capture the lush blooms co-founder Diana had filled our table with. Ditching technology and focussing on flowers for an evening was a calming and novel way to spend a Wednesday night – and the Peckham Level’s bars and street food stalls are an ace place to retire to afterwards.
