The Horniman's latest exhibition delves into the life of Victorian London's leading dealer of exotic animals, shells and other artefacts, Charles Jamrach. The businessman and naturalist traded from a number of east end premises including a bird shop and museum in St George's Street East and a menagerie in Bett Street. Objects on display here include newspaper prints and articles exploring how the exotic beasts became a familiar sight in Britain and the inner workings of the animal trade.
