Public transport in London. There’s nothing quite like it – from the big red buses to the Underground. Not many cities have a transport network that feels as diverse and pacy as the city it serves. This summer, why not delve deeper into its fascinating history and get involved with fun activities?

London Transport Museum is hoping to do just that, with its green-themed summer fun across the museum in Covent Garden, and over at the London Transport Museum Depot in Acton Town. As part of their Climate Crossroads programme at both venues, there’ll be a host of activities that are fun for all the family. Here’s a little more information about your destinations.

London Transport Museum, Covent Garden

From July 24 - August 15, the museum located on a corner of the iconic Covent Garden will host an urban trail around the museum’s galleries. On this adventure, you’ll get to see how London’s transport systems have shaped the city’s environment. From August 16 - September 1, if you’re visiting the London Transport Museum, be on the lookout for city wildlife that live in and around the railway tracks of London – including foxes, kestrels, butterflies and more.  Interactive storytelling sessions will take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, from 10.30am, 11.30am, 1.20pm and 2.20pm.

Of course, when you’ve completed your trail, you can marvel at transport old and new that Londoners have used to cruise around the capital, including old steam locomotives and trams or look to the future and take to the driving seat on an Elizabeth line train. All aboard!

London Transport Museum Depot, Acton

Head west for a look into the past, present, and future of the capital’s transport. This summer, there’s a special focus on the green elements of transport in London – from changes to the services happening right now, to future plans involving cycling and electric scooters. At the Depot, you’ll also find an incredible variety of vehicles, signs, posters and more from the marvellous history of London’s transport. Act fast though, as these events will only run from August 7-8 and 11-15 and must be booked in advance online.
