Hatch, Match and Dispatch: Part II

From the Fan Museum's lovely collection of fans covering more than 300 years of beautiful workmanship, the curator has selected those that commemorate birth, marriages and deaths. Starting from the mid seventeenth century and covering a period of more than 300 years, this display includes mass-produced fans for royal weddings alongside carefully handcrafted fans from a private trousseau. Careful examination of the fans' decoration reveal how these accessories were not merely decorative; some reveal a subtle undercurrent of dynastic and political intrigue.
