Annabel Stockman began this photographic series after she and her husband adopted their two children, in 1998 and 2001. Her images document the sole possessions – small collections of clothes, toys, keepsakes and good luck charms – that their children, and 70 others, brought with them to the UK from their birth country of China. Alongside these movingly simple images, the memories of families about the day of adoption form part of the exhibition, building up an emotional narrative around the items the children brought with them to start their new life.
