As well as the usual Alton Towers rides, at Scarefest you can get lost in creepy Scare Mazes, with treacherous floors, actors leaping out at you and disorientating noises, then – as darkness falls – the terrifying undead arise.
Included in the normal park admission price are the twisted circus of the Carnival of Screams maze and the live-action Zombie Scare Zone, but you'll have to get a Scarefest ticket to experience the Terror of the Towers maze – set among the ruins of the Alton Towers, with vampires rumoured to be in the vicinity – and, strangest of all, the Sanctuary – a mysterious and thoroughly dubious medical asylum, set up by the Ministry of Joy in the 1950s and said by some to be a place of brutal 'happiness enforcement'.
Zombie Scare Zone should be fine for families with children aged over 11; the other Scarefest attractions are 'for the fearless' only…
