There’s no place like London in the autumn. Streets come lined with hues of red, crispening leaves, pubs are packed out with punters sipping pints, and the urge to get into big, cosy jumpers becomes all too real. And really, is there anything better than strolling around a market, coffee to hand, on a cool Sunday morning? We think not. Greenwich Market is one of London’s oldest, filled with everything from knick-knacks to global delicacies, making it the perfect place to visit on an autumnal day trip. Especially considering you’ve got the National Maritime Museum, Cutty Sark, and the Royal Observatory in Greenwich Park, all just a stone’s throw away. Expect plenty of pumpkin-spiced feel-good moments as we take you through our top five reasons to check out Greenwich Market this autumn.

1. Unique arts and crafts stalls

Here's some trivia for you. The market has a royal charter and is located in a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is pretty snazzy. But it’s not just the exterior that’s important, inside Greenwich Market you’ll find a hive of creative entrepreneurship. This incubator of grassroots talent showcases arts and crafts, beauty products, fashion, jewellery, and even pet supplies from many different makers. Whether you’re looking for unique gift ideas, fancy treating yourself or just like a nosey around, there’s plenty to explore.

2. Alongside antiques and collectables

As well as being a hub for new things, Greenwich Market is also famed for its antiques. With a big push on sustainability and championing local crafts, the marketplace treats secondhand goods as cherished collectables. So with that in mind, have a peruse through the 12 dedicated stalls and see what long-lost vintage books, treasured antique chinaware and upcycled steel furnishings you can find. Just in time for Christmas (too soon?).

3. Plus global food and drink offerings

If all that shopping has made you hungry, there’s no better place for autumn warmers than the covered courtyard in the market. Surrounded by independent shops and cafes, it’s a charming place to take a beat between purchases. You’ll find a wide choice of vendors around the space – so any cravings, tastes and dietary requirements can be met. From Ethiopian vegetarian food to freshly-made cannolis, flavour-packed dim sum to satisfying Sunday roasts, there’s a global approach to dining all in one spot.

4. And a buzzing event schedule

Greenwich Market is one of a kind – there's amazing shopping, food, and drink all wrapped up in centuries of history. There's also a calendar full of events year-round. This autumn, it’s really kicking off. In September you can spend an evening admiring pre-1990 classic cars and bikes as owners and enthusiasts come together at Park It in the Market, which also has a spooky Halloween edition coming up. Christmas festivities start with November’s dazzling lantern procession marking the switching on of the Christmas lights.

5. Fun for all ages

It doesn't matter if you’re a couple of young professionals heading out on a first date or you’re a family of four looking for fun and affordable days out over half-term. Kids can try out everything from sushi-making classes to picking out a new favourite book or handmade toys. Meanwhile, adults can enjoy filling their flat with relics, meeting local makers and unwinding afterwards with a couple of pints at a nearby pub. Talk about a dream day out.
