For a limited time only, The Making of Harry Potter at Warner Bros. Studio Tour London gets festive.
The Great Hall (the set used in every film) is laid for a Christmas Day feast, and the Gryffindor Common Room and Boys’ Dormitory are filled with cards and cosy Christmassy props. And, most excitingly of all, the spectacular scale model of Hogwarts is carefully prepared as if the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is covered in snow.
Get close to the magic
Fifty feet wide, when the scale model of Hogwarts was used for long-shots of the school during film-making, a member of the crew would stand on an elevated work platform and sprinkle the ‘snow’ mixture (granulated paper and grains of salt) on to the model by hand with a sieve. The same process will be used at the Studio Tour this November.
You can walk all the way round the model and see it in all its frosty glory. The illumination changes, so you can watch it move from day to night – lights shining dimly from distant tower windows and intricate, realistic details cut into in every flagstone and doorway.
There are prop samples to get your hands on, too, so you can feel the different types of ‘snow’ used for production: snow that floats like it’s falling, snow that crunches under foot and snow that glistens like ice.
Your visit is sure to take you back to all your favourite Hogwarts in the Snow moments in the Harry Potter films.
