The matinee season is a great way to introduce yourself to the recently reopened Regent Street Cinema, whose history stretches back to the screening of the first moving picture by the Lumière Brothers back in 1896.
The programme consists of classic MGM musicals shown on lovely 35mm prints, starting with Singin' in the Rain on 9 Sept and finishing with Westside Story on 28 Oct. You'll be played into the cinema by the original 1936 Compton organ, and each screening will be followed by a free ballroom dance lesson from 4pm (first come, first served) - in the sumptuous Fyvie Hall next door.
Note: In honour of the 54 people who attended that first screening in 1896, and were charged a shilling for the show, Regent Street Cinema will charge the first 54 people for each screening just 1p.
