If you’ve yet to go to a Cinè Reel cinema night, you’re in for a real treat. Created by trained projectionist Ümit Mesut (who owns a film emporium in Clapton filled with Super 8 and Super 16 reels) and film director Liam Saint-Pierre, these film nights exclusively screens movies on 16mm. The events take place in the art deco diamond that is The Castle Cinema and Ümit projects each film, so you can hear the whirr and snap of the film as it plays. There’s even an intermission to allow reel changes. In the run-up to Halloween, there’ll be some epic spooky screenings of Hammer Horror’s Dracula (1958) in Technicolour print and Tobe Hooper’s grizzly ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ on feature-length Super 8mm print.
