In a decision of almost pantomime villainy, the Long Parliament of 1647 banned Christmas – or, more accurately, outlawed Christmas celebrations. The National Army Museum is heading back to that gloomy period of the English Civil War, introducing families with children aged five to 11 to dissident carol singers and insurgent seasonal decorators – who must watch out for New Model Army soldiers, under orders to clamp down hard on any frivolity.
