Hey! Why not spend a bit of Christmas at lovely Cecil Sharp house, aka the home of the English Folk Dance and Song Society? There’s a nice bar and cafe, an award-winning garden and a whole series of winter and Christmas events.
Fun duo Belshazzar’s Feast on December 9, looks like a bit of fun. A concert featuring music, seasonal material, classical, pop and music hall, and even a bit of audience participation. Then on December 12 there’s Festive Gathering, a ‘Christmas concert, with a folk twist’.
Welsh (by way of Sweden) folk whirlwinds Calan will be holding Celtic Christmas on December 15. Then the next day, December 16, means it’s A Winter Union time, a sort of folk and roots supergroup.
There’s tons more, including New Year’s Eve Ceilidh, the big end-of-the-year party, featuring music from the Silver Street Ceilidh Band. Suitable, allegedly, for beginners and experienced dancers alike.
