Used during the 2012 Olympic Games as both a gym and a security hub, this drum-shaped building opened as a school for children aged three to 18 in 2013. Three more connected buildings, plus ponds, catwalks, land undulations and sculptural seats surround the central structure. The architects, Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, also designed a weathering steel bridge to connect the Academy to the neighbourhoods and playing fields on the other side of Temple Mill Lane.
You can visit the Chobham Academy during Open House London 2014 on Saturday September 20 and Sunday September 21, 10am-1pm. Architect-led tours will take place at 10am and noon.
