This five-day animal-art extravaganza will take place both in the classroom (with subjects including live reptiles and animal bones) and out and about around the zoo. It sounds like a real treat eight to 12 year-olds who are fascinated by animals, passionate about drawing and at a loss for summer plans. Each day will focus on a different area of the zoo and a different group of animals. Led by artist Alison Limentani and the Zoo's arts and culture co-ordinator Talita Jenman, children will lean various art techniques, including print making, collage and watercolour, and focus on the famous works and styles of well-known artists. After a visit the ZSL library to see some tradition wildlife illustrations, kids will also learn about basic animal anatomy, study enclosure design and create posters about conservation issues. At the end of the week students will mount an exhibition to show their families what they've been up to. Places can be booked online or email arts@zsl.org for further details.
