The monthly French newspaper Le Monde Diplo, which deals with global issues and is published in 20 languages, holds a series of debates led by key figures in transatlantic affairs. This talk is to be delivered by former soldier Joe Glenton. Joe served a tour in Afghanistan, but refused to return on legal and moral grounds. He was threatened with imprisonment for desertion, but beat the charges. He has since written extensively about the myth of the 'hero soldier' and how it is used to political ends.
