The reigning champ of the BBC2 documentary discusses his sixteenth book, ‘Story of the Jews: Finding the Words (1000 BCE - 1492)’. Somehow, we suspect the prolific Professor Schama won’t have any trouble finding the words at all.
Finding tickets for tonight’s talk, on the other hand, might be a little more difficult, so try to act quickly. Even before it was published last Thursday Schama’s epic history, which tells the Jews’ story vis-à-vis the various peoples that hosted them, was an early favourite to win the £20,000 Samuel Johnson Prize for Non-Fiction. And sure enough, it’s already been longlisted for the award. Still, don’t be too worried if you can’t make tonight’s lecture. Schama’s five-part ‘Story of the Jews’ documentary has already begun airing on – where else? – BBC2.
