To mark the seventieth anniversary of the end of the conflict with Japan (and effectively WWII) the Ministry of Defence is staging an RAF fly-past of Horse Guards Parade. Historical and modern aircraft taking part include a spitfire and a typhoon. Members of the public are invited to line the streets of Whitehall and watch the national service on big screens to show their support for armed forces both past and present. Following the fly-past there will be a wreath-laying ceremony including hymns attended by veterans of the conflict as well as the Prince of Wales and the Prime Minister. Afterwards the pipes and drums will lead a procession of veterans and current personnel to the grounds of Westminster Abbey.
