The confetti, lost foam fingers and mislaid Oompa Loompa wigs have barely been swept away after Alexandra Palace’s famously rowdy world darts championship. But there’s no post-Christmas malaise for the People’s Palace, which is hosting another sporting spectacle this week. The 2023 Cazoo Masters – aka one of the biggest dates in the Snooker calendar – will see the top 16 players in the world battle it out to see who among them really is the best baller of them all. Basically, a bit like ‘Ru Paul’s Drag Race All Stars’, but with putting instead of tucking. A line up of creme-de-la-creme players from Ronnie O’Sullivan and John Higgins to Luca Brecel and Shaun Murphy will be battling it out in the first-round matches this week in the hope of reaching the knock-out stages and being declared King of the cues on January 15. Around 2,200 fans are expected to pack out each game, but tickets are selling quick. So don’t miss the ball.
