Islington’s hallowed Sadler’s Wells might be London’s only dedicated major dance theatre, but that’s set to change in February, when its 550-seat sister venue Sadler’s Wells East opens in Stratford. A whole second Sadler’s is a serious cultural statement, more or less doubling the amount of interesting contemporary dance work appearing on London stages. Want to be one of its first audience members? Grab tickets to Our Mighty Groove (Feb 6-9) by choreographer Vicki Igbokwe-Ozoagu, which will see young dancers from east London take part in a club-influenced opening blowout, or drop in to check out Humanhood’s free VR experience in the theatre’s community space The Dance Floor (Feb 12-15).
February 2025: The first month of the year can feel like a long old slog, but February is here at last, which means that the days are getting longer, our bank accounts are looking a bit healthier, and we’re generally feeling a lot more inclined to leave the house.
Which is just as well, because February packs plenty into its four short weeks, with Valentine’s Day, LGBTQ+ History Month, London Fashion Week and the half-term holidays to look forward to in the coming days.
February also sees a healthy number of productions and art exhibitions opening as London’s cultural scene rouses from its post-Christmas hibernation. Highlights include Cate Blanchett’s return to the stage in The Seagull and Jonathan Bailey’s lead turn in Richard II, plus Tate Modern’s exhibition on 80s fashion maverick Leigh Bowery, and Making Egypt at Young V&A. Most exciting of all is the opening of Sadler’s Wells brand new 450-seat theatre in Stratford, which hosts its debut show Our Mighty Groove.
No matter what your vibe, tastes or interests, there is always something to do in London. Whether you want to see cutting-edge art exhibitions, iconic attractions, secret spots, world-beating theatre, stunning green spaces, it’s all here and you can probably fit all this in and more still barely feel like you’ve scratched the surface of the city. And that’s before you factor in all those historic London pubs, the latest must-visit restaurants and vibrant LGBTQ+ venues. And if you need somewhere to stay? Check out London’s best hotels or Airbnbs.
