1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair is back for its eleventh and largest-ever installment, featuring 62 exhibitors from 31 countries. There’ll be work by newcomers from New York, Rio de Janeiro, Lagos and Dubai on display, plus plenty by more established artists. Joana Choumali, Ibrahim El-Salahi and Soly Cissé are just some of the better-known exhibitors, specialising in a variety of mediums, who are set to have their work showcased.
The work of Anime El Gotaibi is set to be particularly poignant. The stunning sculptures, which illuminate at dusk to represent the Moroccan artist's personal philosophy that light emerges from darkness, is El Gotaibi's most ambitious work to date, and was completed in collaboration with MCC Gallery in Marrakech. It’s definitely worth checking out.
