A young woman with a facial disfigurement goes in search of a miracle in this offbeat new musical, with a score by wildly successful Broadway composer Jeanine Tesori ('Caroline, or Change', 'Thoroughly Modern Millie'). It's set in '60s Oklahoma, where shy, devout young Violet decides to cross the country to meet a famous TV evangelist to heal her face, and encounters new friends along the way.
'Violet' is based on a short story of Doris Betts, adapted by playwright Brian Crawley. 'Fun Home' star Kaisa Hammarlund takes the title role. It has its UK premiere at Charing Cross Theatre, in a production directed by Shuntaro Fujita, which will then transfer to Tokyo.
