The Black American writer Alice Childress’s 1955 play ‘Trouble in Mind’ is a satire years ahead of its time, about a Black actress stuck making a play about racism that’s been written by two white men. A success in its time, it’s been itching for a major revival for years now. And indeed, there was a minor revival of it a few years back when the actor Tanya Moodie starred in a production at Notting Hill’s The Print Room. Now – with her profile boosted by her role in ‘Motherland‘ – she’s back in a different production for the National Theatre, directed by Nancy Medina.
