Set in Victorian London, this new play is a sweaty insight into the world of an all-female underground boxing club. Joy Wilkinson has based 'The Sweet Science of Bruising' on research into real-life 19th century women boxers, and follows four fighters as they spar their ways through rowdy Southwark pubs to classy drawing rooms. Directed by Kirsty Patrick Ward, it mixes costume drama with realistic bouts.
'The Sweet Science of Bruising' transfers to Wilton's Music Hall in June 2019, after premiering at Southwark Playhouse in Autumn 2018.
