Writer-director Alexander Zeldin made his name with a series of plays – ‘Beyond Caring’, ‘LOVE’, ‘Faith, Hope and Charity’ – that documented and diagnosed Britain in the age of austerity. His last, 2021’s ‘The Confessions’, saw him branch out thematically. But his latest sounds like even more of a departure. ‘The Other Place’ is a rewrite of Sophocles’s ‘Antigone’ as two sisters bitterly clash over the family home that’s been remodelled by their uncle. Zeldin writes, and directs a cast that includes Emma D’Arcy, Alison Oliver, Tobias Menzies and Nina Sosanya, and there’s music from Foals frontman Yannis Philippakis, who produced a memorable score to ‘The Confessions’.
