Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, the first of Rick Riordan’s beloved YA books about the demigod children of the Greek pantheon getting up to mythology-inpired scrapes, has already begat a film and a TV adaptation. Now, here comes the musical. In fact
Rob Rokicki and Joe Tracz’s The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical has been around for a little while, having played two off-Broadway and one limited Broadway season in the ’10s. Now it finally debuts in the UK, in a new production by director-choreographer Lizzi Gee. Story-wise, it cleaves pretty close to the book, and follows 13-year-old Percy Jackson as he rather dramatically discovers that he is the son of Poseidon and must start his life anew as he’s plunged into a magical world of myth and mayhem based around Camp Halfblood, a school and home for demigods.
Max Harwood will play Percy.
