What a show to go out on, eh? The Turbine Theatre opened with some promise in 2019 with the UK premiere of Broadway’s High Fidelity musical, but the 92-seat venue has never really staged anything else with a comparably high profile (the pandemic didn’t help). Now it’s set to close following some (not necessarily related) controversy over working conditions, though the official line is lack of financial viability in the current climate.
Nonetheless, first comes The Liar, the Bitch and the Wardrobe, an adult pantomime parody of CS Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia by Joshua Coley. Fleeing the prospect of nuclear war, two refugees plunge into Narnia where they encounter such charming characters as Mr Topless, The Hungry Beaver, The Tight Bi*ch and Aslan.
