Two prisoners perform 'Antigone' in their cell in this intense story of life on South Africa's penal colony Robben Island. Athol Fugard, John Kani and Winston Ntshona's political drama of apartheid-era life draws on real stories of the island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years.
'The Island' has landed its authors plenty of accolades since it opened in Cape Town in 1973, moving to Broadway the following year. This revival of a black theatre classic is directed by John Terry.
