Federico García Lorca's 1936 classic is a harsh insight into a matriarchal household. Bernarda represses her five daughters in the conformist world of a rural Spanish village, in an all-female play that was banned in Spain for decades because of its subversive themes. 'The House of Bernarda Alba' is revived at Cervantes Theatre in a production that's performed both in Spanish (Monday to Wednesday) and in English (Thursday to Saturday). Jorge de Juan directs.
