The Devil May Care

Mark Giesser’s new play is a reworking of Bernard Shaw’s early hit The Devil’s Disciple that moves the action from colonial America to the little-remembered (over here, anyway) Philippine-American War (1899-1913). It concerns a disreputable American trader who is mistakenly arrested as a spy by the occupying US military in a small Philippine town, and who seems unexpectedly determined to die to cover for the man he’s been mistaken for.
