British Youth Opera celebrates its twenty-fifth anniversary with two new productions in association with Southbank Sinfonia. Smetana's comic masterpiece, inspired by folk tales from his native Bohemia, tells of the titular fiancée whose arranged marriage is thwarted by her true-love's cunning. An opera of in-laws, secret identities and circuses, its inventiveness and humour have made it an audience favourite. (Note: there is a pre-concert talk at 5.45pm. Sung in English; runs three hours and 20 mins with two intervals.)
