Wagner's great battle of the sensual and the spiritual returns to the Royal Opera in Tim Albery's new production. Semyon Bychkov conducts an international cast headed by Johan Botha who takes the role of the artist struggling to reconcile contrasting aspects of his art, from the sensual to the sublime, Michaela Schuster is Venus and Eva-Maria Westbroek takes the part of Elisabeth.
