Shanghai Dolls

Amy Ng’s new play focusses on the fraught realtionship between pioneering female Chinese director Sun Weishi and actress and politician Jiang Qing. When young and penniless the two first crossed paths after both auditioning for the same play in Shanghai – as time wore on Jiang developed a bitter enmity towards the director that became increasingly dangerous as her power increased. Gabby Wong and Millicent Wong star as the fatally entwined pair, in a co-production with Paines Plough directed by Katie Posner.
