Candle-lit, timber-framed, pit-seated and equipped with an actual roof, this loving recreation of a 17th Century Jacobean theatre is the new indoor addition to Shakespeare's Globe, set to open in January 2014. Inspired by a set of early theatre designs discovered in the '60s, the venue was built following a £7.5million project and takes its name from the Globe's famous actor-founder. Its 340-seat playhouse will play host to an inaugural season of plays, opera and one-off concerts as well as a new children’s company aged 12 to 16, who will be trained in early modern drama.
