The Glyndebourne Festival Opera and Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment under Ottavio Dantone, performs Handel's 'Rinaldo' (semi-staged; sung in italian). With contralto Sonia Prina (Rinaldo), mezzo-soprano Varduhi Abrahamyan (Goffredo), counter-tenor Tim Mead (Eustazio), soprano Sandrine Piau (Almirena), soprano Brenda Rae (Armida), bass-baritone Luca Pisaroni (Argante) and countertenor William Towers (A Christian Magician). (Note: at 5.15pm there is a Proms Plus event at the Royal College of Music. Handel expert Ruth Smith and writer, critic and Handel biographer Jonathan Keates join Louise Fryer explore Rinaldo, Handel's first opera for London, and place it in the context of his extraordinary genius as a theatre composer.)
