Ivan Ivanovich Nyukhin is being badgered by his wife to give a lecture about stopping smoking. Chekhov's early comic monologue is performed by Coronation Street actor Philip Lowrie. In the same evening, Lowrie will also give a dramatic reading of Alexander Pushkin's 'Queen of Spades'.
