When it was originally announced in May, Odd and the Frost Giants was quite the coup for Unicorn Theatre, being an adaptation of revered fantasy author Neil Gaiman’s 2008 fantasy kids’ novella based on Norse myth. Unfortunately the subsequent sexual misconduct allegations against Gaiman – which have torpedoed various screen adaptations – have made his connection considerably less desirable, with his name now about as low in the credits here as is physically possible. It is, however, still going ahead, and it is, at least, not written by Gaiman, being an adaptation by Robert Alan Evans directed by the theatre’s new-ish boss Rachel Bagshaw. Aimed at ages seven-plus, it follows unlikely hero Odd after he encounters Odin, Thor and Loki, who have all been turned into animals by the villainous giants.
