Okay, it doesn’t take a genius to work out that the arrival of this 45-minute live immersive Minecraft experience on the same day as The Minecraft Movie opens at cinemas may not actually be entirely coincidental. But whatever: despite its lovably scrappy origins and lo-fi block-baased aesthetic, Minecraft is already the most successful computer game in history, so let’s not fret unduly about capitalism being thrown into the mix.
Minecraft Experience: Villager Rescue is an all-ages 45-minute live adventure that mixes lovingly designed immersive rooms that recreate the iconic Minecraft ‘look’ with an AR component that allows you to take part in the show’s story, which involves you rescuing some of the game’s trademark dopey villagers from some zombies. Maybe it’s only in town as a bit of high concept promo for the film, but for the Minecraft lover in your life it looks pretty darn essential.
