Emma Rice’s adaptation of Enid Blyton’s ‘Malory Towers’ is the second show from her Wise Children theatre company, and scored warm reviews on national tour last year. A London transfer was always a matter of when not if, and so it comes to pass that it will rock up to the Southbank Centre for the 2020 summer holidays. It follows hijinks at all-girls’ boarding school in remote Cornwall, centring on hot-tempered new girl Darrell Rivers, though this being Rice it’s a grandiose, music-heavy and generically tricksy take on the subject. It stars Rosie Abraham as Sally Hope, Alison Arnopp as Gwendoline Lacey, Georgia Bruce as Bill Robinson, Mirabelle Gremaud as Irene Dupont, Bobbie Little as Alicia Johns, Naomi Morris as Mary Lou Atkinson and Alice Vilanculo as Darrell Rivers, with Katy Ellis and Stephanie Hockley. Ages eight-plus.
Children can go half-price if they book before March 1.
