Opera Holland Park opens its season with a new production of Donizetti's tragedy based on the novel by Walter Scott. Lucia Ashton's brother is determined to marry her off to his ally Arturo, Lord Bucklaw. But Lucia loves family rival, Edgardo Ravenswood, and personal and political strife ensues leading to a dreadful conclusion. Stars Elvira Fatykhova (Lucia), Aldo Di Toro (Edgardo), David Stephenson (Enrico) and Aled Hall (Arturo). Best known for Lucia's mad scene, this lyrical score is the epitome of bel canto tragedy. Stuart Stratford conducts City of London Sinfonia and the Opera Holland Park Chorus; the director is Olivia Fuchs. (Sung in Italian with English surtitles.)
