Martinu's surrealist opera, based on a dream-play by Georges Neveux, is staged by English National Opera in a new production directed by Richard Jones. Michel arrives in a small town, intent on finding the unknown girl he once heard singing at an open window… is he the only sane man in a world where everyone else has lost their memory? Starring Julia Sporsén in the title role and Peter Hoare as Michel, with Jeffrey Lloyd-Roberts, Andrew Shore, Stephen Richardson, Emilie Renard, Gwynne Howell, Susan Bickley and Valerie Reid. The conductor is Edward Gardner; designs by Antony McDonald. (Sung in English. Runs three hours.)
