Playwright, theatre maker, director and designer Brett Bailey returns to London with this installation that looks at Africa's past in relation to the rest of the world. The South African director takes his live tableaux piece off site from the Barbican to the Vaults at Waterloo. Twelve tableaux feature performers in real-life settings that confront colonial atrocities, European notions of racial supremacy and the plight of immigrants. It's all presented in a form intended to subvert the nineteenth and twentieth century phenomenon of 'Human Zoos' where Africans were put on show as objects of curiosity. A live Namibian choir accompany the exhibition, which caused a stir earlier this year at the Edinburgh fringe. Visits are undertaken in 20 minute intervals. Ages 14+.
