Dominic Gray directs a bold new production in which Mozart's opera is given a new lease of life when playboy Don Giovanni leaps out of the closet as a debaucherous nightclub owner and straight into the heady heyday of the Eighties club scene, a setting inspired by New York's legendary Studio 54. With the Don's pursuit and conquest of young men as well as the ladies, there is a complete reversal of roles. The sopranos become tenors, baritones become mezzos, demonstrating the harmonic genius of Mozart with all parts continuing to work together. (The final scene of Act 1 was performed on the main stage at Trafalgar Square for Pride in 2009; this complete production opens at Heaven night club.)
